I am beginning a chicken project and and know virtually nothing about raising chickens. I have heard froma chicken neighbor that getting differnet breeds who were not raised together can lead to much bloodshed and heartache. Is this to be expected? What should I do? Secondly, we live in Illinois near the Wisconsin border. If I get chicks now when can I expect them to start laying? thanks! any insights are appreciated. Jen

Hi FowlBlog! Are you open to adding more links to the blog? I work with a farm in the UK and it would be great to get a link from your wonderful website! If you could email me to let me know either way that would be much appreciated.
